This module will introduce students to some contemporary research in the field of Physiology.
- To study original research that advances our understanding of the field of Physiology.
- To understand how experimental approaches are applied to develop new knowledge in the field of Physiology.
- To identify and understand experimental evidence that supports conclusions in Physiology research.
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Critically evaluate contemporary Physiology research literature to understand their contribution to scientific knowledge.
2. Analyse experimental Physiology research literature and identify evidence that supports scientific conclusions.
3. Explain how experimental methodologies are used in Physiology research, demonstrating an understanding of how these approaches generate new knowledge.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
4. Evaluate supporting experimental evidence relating to research topics studied, weighing up different arguments and perspectives, to inform understanding.
5. Demonstrate effective communication and articulate scientific arguments that are supported by appropriate experimental evidence.
6. Use online literature searching tools to identify relevant research and other resources to strengthen understanding of research topics studied and to support assessed written work.
The module will consist of a number of "research topic units", each of which will contain a series of workshops, screencasts, and other teaching sessions relating to a particular research topic within the field of Physiology. Students will attend, and do additional reading on, at least 2 of these topics.
